When Yu-Na began to skate in 1996, Yu-Na's talent was immediately noticeable. Coaches never had to teach this energetic and fearless little girl twice. She also had another critical ingredient of a champion, an extraordinary work ethic. Even when she was very young, Yu-Na was one of the hardest workers on ice. Her total concentration and commitment to every practice session were always beyond her age. There is no denying that Yu-Na’s forte has been her jumps. She was landing a full set of triples at age 12. However, Yu-Na pulled off an eye-catching transformation in the presentation department as well in 2005/2006 season and continues to develop as an artistic skater.
At the age of 16, Yu-Na is already a four-time Korean Senior National Champion (2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006). Her success on the international scene began with a small victory at the novice division of the 2002 Triglav Trophy. She went on to become the first Korean skater to win the ISU Junior Championships in March 2006 and a Senior Grand Prix competition in November 2006,Trophee Eric Bompard in 2006.
Korean fans endearingly call Yu-Na a 'steel butterfly' - a graceful and delicate presence on ice with the inner strength of steel. To the people who have been watching her from her early years, Yu-Na is known for her fierce competitive fire. But winning competitions is not everything for her. She dreams of competing in the Olympics like all other skaters. But what's most important for her is to one day be remembered for her unforgettable performances.
